Project ARISE is building mason bee houses for San Diego!
Project ARISE is partnering with Build4Bees to create the first Mission Mason initiative: provide free mason bee houses to beautify green spaces in San Diego!
Mason bees are excellent pollinators (about 120 times more effective than honey bees). They are non-aggressive and only very rarely sting. Mason bees are crucial to preserving biodiversity because they help plants reproduce!
Our mason bee houses are about 4”x4" and 1 foot tall. They are built by Project ARISE student volunteers and made of western cedar, which is sturdy and durable through outside weather conditions.
They need to be screwed onto a garden stake that is hammered into dirt ground. Alternatively, they can be mounted to a fence, wall, etc.
Project ARISE can provide a 4 ft garden post to be used for this installation.
A mud source also needs to be constructed <10-15 ft away from the house for the mason bees to use for constructing their homes.
Project ARISE can provide Crownbees mason bee mud mix to create a clay-based mud source.
Project ARISE is providing free mason bee houses for schools, libraries, community gardens, and other public green spaces in San Diego.
